Life is short. Stay awake for it.

This week I co-hosted a very cool once-a-month program with NCSY: Latte and Learn. It's for public school high schoolers and is an opportunity to learn and connect Jewishly in a fun environment. There was a girl I had invited to join, and this month she came for the first time, and enjoyed it!
OK. What's the big deal?
The big deal of this story is in its very ordinariness.
Here's the big deal: how did I come to invite this girl to learn? Well, her grandmother is a Russian seamstress whom my mother knows from some seamstressing work she's done. My mother invited the seamstress to Shabbat dinner, then to Chanuka dinner, with her granddaughters.
I was there, met the girls, and invited the older one to my program. And she came!
Opportunities to connect are all around us. Hiding in the very ordinariness of everyday life.
As Caribou coffee's motto states, "Life is short. Stay awake for it."
Have a great week.
