Those of you who are on Facebook or who were at our talk at JFX Sunday school this week know exactly what I'm going to ramble about this week: the milestone of our son Moishy putting on tefillin for the first time in his life. G-d willing he will put on tefillin every day for the rest of his life excluding Shabbos and major holidays. Our family and my in-laws traveled to the Telshe Yeshiva in Wickliffe (yes, there are Jews there) so the Torah sage and nonagenarian Rabbi Chaim Stein, who is my father-in-laws rabbi and mentor, could help him lay tefillin for the first time. I was awed, humbled, inspired. Among many reasons, here's why: I do not know the first thing about laying tefillin. He does. He's 12. When your kids know more Judaism than you do, it's awe-inspiring, humbling. My heart screamed a passionate prayer there, in that humble office in Wickliffe: "G-d! Please, always let my children surpass me in Torah, in observance, in spirituality. And... let me be proud of that. Always."
Have a great week.
