Q. I'm interested in kosher, but there is no way I can really be kosher. We host all kinds of family things in our home, and I have my grandmother's china that means so much to me. Is there any hope?
A. Congratulations on starting to think about kosher! Some thoughts:
1. Try not to think about kosher as an all-or-nothing proposition. If keeping strictly kosher is a 10, and having cheeseburgers is a zero, then upgrading to a 1 or a 2 is of enormous value! Example of a 1: not bringing shellfish or pork into the home.
2. Most of your dishes and appliances can be salvaged for kosher use. Ask Rabbi Koval for details/guidance; you will be pleasantly surprised. Likewise, most family traditions and get-togethers can be creatively navigated.
3. When you go kosher with JFX, we throw you a kosher kitchen shower to celebrate this wonderful accomplishment. You get to register, just like when you were engaged, for some fun new stuff! We've already thrown about 5 of these and they are wonderful.

Good luck!
