Dear JFX Family and Community,
As many of you know, our dear beautiful friend “Morah” Kimmy will be donating her kidney on March 15th to her father who has been battling kidney problems for many years.
On March 15th, the day of her surgery, at 9 am, JFX Sisterhood will be hosting a Tehillim (praying of Psalms) at the home of Shari Goldberg, 28449 N. Woodland in Pepper Pike.
We will gather together on Kimmy’s behalf to pray for her well-being and successful surgery for her and her dad. We will use selections from the Book of Psalms. You do not need to read, speak, or understand Hebrew to participate. We will provide the text to use. We will be finished by 9:30. If you cannot be present in person, there are other ways to participate. You can join over the phone:
To call in, dial 424-203-8075 from any phone. When prompted, dial the
access code:
737714#.
Or, you may call in later to pray along with the recording.
To listen to recording:
Dial - 424-203-8079 from any phone.
Enter Access Code - 737714#
Ruchi will lead this time-honored tradition in praying for Kim’s easy recovery.
Please keep Kim in mind in your thoughts and prayers. Her Hebrew name is Malka Leah bat Masha Chaya, and her dad's name is Leib Reuven ben Fraidel.
One of Kimmy’s friends, Chaya Nadoff, will be organizing kosher meals and posting updates on the LotsaHelpingHands website. You may contact Chaya directly to get access at c_nadoff@hotmail.com. You can post a message, schedule a night to bring dinner, and get kosher info.
Kimmy’s wishes are for us to support her and her father by taking on a mitzvah on their behalf. You can commit to performing the mitzvah for a specific period of time, i.e., a day, a week, 3 weeks, or 6 weeks.
Feel free to think of your own, and here are some suggestions:
1. You can join in starting what’s called in Hebrew a “machsome”-which means an organized time of day where we are each extra careful not to gossip (“lashon hara”) or speak negatively of others. This can be done at any time you wish, but Ruchi’s suggestion is that we all do this Friday night starting March 11th at Shabbat dinner and continue for 3 more weeks. As dinner starts you say a short statement that you are now refraining from speaking or hearing negativity about others in the merit of a speedy recovery for Malka Leah bat Masha Chaya. That way our families and guests can be part of the mitzvah, augmenting the merits exponentially.
Here is the prayer:
May it be Your Will, our God and the God of our forefathers, that for the next hour, from 6 pm to 7pm (or whatever time applies to you), I succeed, for the next hour, to refrain from all forms of negative speech, whether speaking, listening to, reading, and writing; whether words of gossip, falsehood, anger, or negativity, in the merit that(Kim) Malka Leah bat Masha Chaya, and her dad Leib Reuven ben Fraidel have a speedy and complete recovery of the body and spirit, among all those in Israel that need a speedy recovery.
Amen
And here it is in Hebrew for those that are comfortable with the Hebrew:
Hareini mekabelet al atzmi bli neder shmirat halashon b’dibbur, shmiya, kriya, k’tiva, m’achshav v’ad sha’ah l’zchut refuah sheleimah l’ Malka Leah bat Masha Chaya, v'Leib Reuven ben Fraidel, b'toch she'ar cholei Yisrael, amen.
2. Lighting Shabbat candles on time the Friday before surgery (candle lighting times can be found on the JFX Shabbat Email each week).
3. Give tzeddakah prior to lighting Shabbat candles. Giving tzeddakah prior to lighting is a special tradition and may be performed by any family member.
4. Prior to Shabbat call a friend or family member and wish them a good Shabbat. Or, make a special phone call or send an email just to cheer someone up who may be feeling lonely or sad.
5. Keep kosher on Tuesday, the day of the surgery. That means not mixing milk and meat; avoiding non-kosher meats, fish and poultry; and checking packaged foods for a kosher symbol.
6. Say the Shema prayer on the day of surgery: "Shema Yisrael Adonay Elohainu Adonay Echad."
If you feel comfortable letting us know what you are doing, please do so.
May all the merits, learning, praying, and mitzvos that we perform greatly contribute to the easy and fast recovery of Kim and her wonderful father.
Much Gratitude,
JFX Sisterhood
